Invited Presentation 2
Automatic Differentiation in Computer Algebra Systems: An Implementation of the Forward and Reverse mode
in Maple
The speaker will present a first implementation of the "reverse" mode in Maple for computing gradients of functions represented as Maple procedures. The implementation works for a wide class of Maple procedures, including procedures which make recursive calls, calls to in-line and out-of-line procedures. He will also discuss the model of automatic differentiation used, the role of automatic differentiation within a computer algebra system, and what advantages a symbolic computation system like Maple provides for implementing automatic differentiation.
